Have you gone nuts over Soapnuts ?

Updated: Dec 15, 2019

Soapnuts are a product that I have stocked on my online store since it opened. I get lots of questions and emails about these little guys so I thought I would write a post about them. So some of you already know a little bit about soapnuts but for those of you you haven't heard of them or wonder what you do with them here's a few facts and instructions on how to use them.

Sopanuts , what are they ?

Soapnuts or Soapberries as some of them are called are actually dried fruit shells which contain real natural soap and are 100% completely natural.

Living Naturally Soapnuts which I stock at Eco Green Revolution are a natural, non-polluting, compostable, alternative to conventional laundry detergents and synthetic soaps.

What is so good about soapnuts ?

They are certified vegan by The Vegan Society, certified organic, biodegradable, compostable, hypoallergenic, phosphate free, sls free, cruelty free, anti fungal anti microbial and palm oil free.

How do I use them ?

Soapnuts are very easy to use, they arrive in a cotton bag full of enough soapnuts for around 240 washes (I stock the 500g bag) Inside the bag is a smaller muslin bag, place around 5-7 soapnut shells/or equivalent half shells into the muslin wash bag. I just end to tie it in a small knot so it stays secure. I also add a few drops of essential oil on to the bag to add a slight fragrance to my washing. I then add the bag to my laundry in the washing machine and wash as normal. You can reuse these same shells for around 4 more washes then once finished I add mine to the compost, making them an excellent zero waste product.

You can also soak the soapnuts if you wanted to before hand (instructions on doing this will arrive with your soapnuts.

How do they work ?

Soapnut fruits actually contain a natural soap called saponin, which is released when they come into contact with water.

Just a brief explanation on soapnuts for you, if you have any questions in regards to using them then please do not hesitate to get in touch.
